Which itinerary should you follow in a campervan from Grenoble to discover the Chartreuse?

As soon as the passes reopen, here are the ideal stops for a campervan road trip in the Chartreuse. The stops are in chronological order, and the distance given is the one separating each point from the previous stop.

As for the driving experience, it all depends on your habits. As a general rule, campervans are more compact and easier to manoeuvre on narrow mountain roads. However, they offer less self-sufficiency than a large campervan, which comes with a toilet and a shower.

Do you need dedicated insurance to hire a campervan in the mountains?

No, there is no dedicated insurance to protect your hired campervan or large campervan in the mountains. We offer three protection packs, from the basic insurance included in your booking to the premium insurance. If you're worried about windscreen damage or possible tyre damage, the latter is the one for you.

Is the campervan hire agency in Grenoble open 7 days a week?

Yes, the WeVan Grenoble campervan hire agency is open Monday to Sunday. From Monday to Saturday, we welcome you from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. These hours may vary and differ from the return hours.

We offer self-service returns, allowing you to return your campervan at a time of your choice, for a €15 supplement (indicative price, subject to change). The condition report will be carried out by the WeVan Grenoble team as soon as the agency reopens. We will release the card pre-authorisation after checking that everything is in order.

Do you offer snow chains or winter tyres with a campervan hired in Grenoble?

In Isère, and more broadly across the whole Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, the Loi Montagne (mountain law) requires snow tyres or the possession of snow socks or chains on most high-altitude roads, from 1 November to 31 March. If you're hiring a campervan to go skiing, there's no way around it. The WeVan Grenoble hire agency can fully equip your campervan for €15/day (price subject to change). This option must be confirmed when booking online.
