Hire a motorhome in Brittany

Four wheels grounded, head in the clouds. Brittany doesn’t bother with long introductions. It plunges you instantly into a raw natural setting shaped by two complementary lands: Armor, facing the sea, and Argoat, inland Brittany, wooded and hedgerowed. In these landscapes as captivating as they are varied, park facing a hidden cove, on a misty moor, in the heart of a legendary forest or near a charming village. Whether on the move or settled before a magical panorama, motorhome hire in Brittany is an obvious choice. Fasten your seatbelt — Bec’h dei (let’s go)!

The must-sees of motorhome hire in Brittany

Armorica:

Asterix and Obelix certainly have good taste — that of living in a breathtaking region, a pure concentrate of wild Brittany. Perfect for a campervan road trip in Brittany, you’ll easily find places to settle for the night.

The Pink Granite Coast:

The sea and the wind have done an excellent job shaping the Breton coastline. From Perros-Guirec, admire the pink granite blocks and turquoise waters that give this coast an almost unreal appearance. Take out the inflatable stand-up paddles from your motorhome hire and glide along natural reserves and surreal coves nestled between charming villages.

The cliffs of Finistère:

A lighthouse in the darkness, a far breton in your hand. For a snack stop or a night under the stars, Breton headlands brighten your journey. Iconic spots? Pointe du Raz, Pointe de Pen-Hir, Pointe de Dinan and Cap de la Chèvre. If you love wild and rugged landscapes, motorhome hire in Finistère is ideal for exploring the wild coast in complete freedom.

The Brocéliande Forest:

mist crawls from one root to the next. On the surface of the Fairy Mirror pond, bubbles break the still water. The forest creaks, a shadow emerges growling. Your dog is just back from its toilet break. Between Arthurian legends and mystical atmosphere, your imagination goes wild.

Towns and villages of character:

Saint-Malo, Lannion, Rochefort-en-Terre, Locronan… every one of these small towns deserves a stop for their gastronomy, love of folklore and warm hospitality.

5 reasons to hire a motorhome in Brittany

#1 The call of the ocean

One coastline, a thousand worlds. Unlike migratory birds that cross the region in a flap (they clearly haven’t understood how to enjoy life…), your campervan hire in Brittany allows for gentle immersion. Côtes-d’Armor, Morbihan and Finistère share almost the entire Breton coastline. Bordered by three seas and oceans, the shores display every shade of blue.
Looking for Caribbean-coloured waters? Head to Roscoff, Nevez, Ploemeur or Binic.
A chic seaside ambience? Enjoy an ice cream on Dinard’s Clair de Lune promenade.
Storm-beaten cliffs? Aim for the Kerroc’h coast, Cap Fréhel or the Raz de Sein.
And if you want an escape between sea and nature, don’t miss the Crozon peninsula or the Quiberon peninsula — two Breton gems easily accessible with your hired motorhome.

#2 Watersports in Brittany

Whether you feel at home inside Atlantic barrels or struggle to stand upright on a calm lake, Brittany gets you into the water. Thanks to the smart spaces inside your motorhome hire in Brittany, load your surf, kite, wingfoil or stand-up paddle boards and head for the region’s best watersport spots.

Where to surf in Brittany?

  • La Torche (Finistère), for experienced surfers
  • Guidel (Morbihan), officially labelled as a surf town
  • Baie des Trépassés, surprisingly calm despite its name
  • Trestraou Bay (Côtes-d’Armor), perfect for beginners

For lovers of other watersports, a campervan hire in Morbihan is ideal for discovering the region differently: kayaking around Île-aux-Moines, paddleboarding in Quiberon Bay or enjoying a sailing trip in the Gulf of Morbihan.Motorhome hire in Brittany

#3 Explore Brittany off the beaten track

As with many destinations, some remote beaches and iconic sites can only be reached on foot or by bike. With a heavy heart, leave your motorhome for a few hours (after a gentle pat on the bonnet) to follow the Customs Path or the Vélodyssée cycling route from Roscoff to Nantes.
Often, it only takes a few minutes to immerse yourself in the hidden, tranquil side of Brittany. A secondary road between two hedges, a tip overheard at a market, a small weathered “plage” sign — trust your instincts.

#4 Wander through Brittany’s most beautiful villages

Between scenic roads, stop in Breton villages. In the low season, they are warm refuges in bad weather. A glass of cider or chouchen (not too much if you’re driving!) in a traditional bar and a few stories shared with locals are enough to enrich your road trip.

Locronan is film-worthy all year round. In Rochefort-en-Terre (Morbihan), wrought-iron balconies bloom with flowers. In Le Faou (Finistère), small boats float quietly. In Ille-et-Vilaine, on the banks of the Rance, Saint-Suliac offers a wonderfully authentic maritime atmosphere.

We’d love to reveal all of Brittany’s hidden gems… but the Bretons might curse us for generations. The best way is still to get lost and find them yourself.

#5 Immerse yourself in Breton folklore

You’ll quickly notice from the road signs that Brittany celebrates its uniqueness. While it will take more than one trip to decode Celtic language, you can already discover its local customs. With a bit of luck, you might attend a bagad rehearsal on a village square. More likely, you’ll hear bombardes, binious, Celtic harps and other traditional instruments during a fest-noz, whether in a village hall or on a grassy field.
If you prefer silence to music, head for the Brocéliande Forest where the unexpected appears at every bend.

Ready for a legendary road trip with your motorhome hire in Brittany? Whether travelling as a couple or with family, embrace the full force of the region in a more comfortable version of vanlife.

Frequently asked questions

All our answers to help you make the right choice when renting a campervan.

Frequently asked questions

What driving licence do you need to drive a hired motorhome?

A category B licence is enough. You’ll quickly regain the same driving sensations as with a car, the only difference being a slightly larger size. For even more comfort, opt for motorhome hire in Brittany with an automatic gearbox.

Can I drive everywhere with a motorhome in Brittany?

Almost! In terms of manoeuvrability, our motorhomes adapt just as well to main roads as to small Breton lanes. However, before entering tunnels or underground car parks, check the vehicle’s dimensions on the registration document. The largest models are over 2.5 metres high.

Why are there no toll motorways in Brittany?

Introduced in the 1970s, the Breton road plan opened up the region with free dual carriageways limited to 110 km/h. This is still the case today.

Am I allowed to wild camp in Brittany?

Generally, wild camping is forbidden in natural areas of Brittany. Fortunately, the region is full of nature-friendly campsites and parking areas with sea views, dedicated to leisure vehicles.

That said, with high visitor numbers in peak season, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find a good spot on the coast — even after checkingPark4Night or France Passion. Before leaving, make sure to consult our guide to parkingin a campervan or motorhome in France.
