There's like a desire for a surf trip floating in the air (and soon in the water!). The surfboards are ready on the roof of the campervan and the wetsuits are in the trunk, much too dry for our taste. The excitement is palpable. Here we are Vendee by campervan!
We are Mathilde and Mathieu, fans of road trips in a campervan, sliding and ocean. We take you on the road in our van to discover the Vendée, its waves, its kilometres of beach and its wild surfing spots.

A surf trip in Vendée

The Vendée region is renowned for its long sandy beaches with waves that are reputed to be small and accessible, ideal for novice surfers. The more advanced levels are not to be outdone. They can find their happiness on one of the many rocky bottoms scattered here and there on the coast - coucou la Sauzaie. Remember to keep a close eye on the wind and tide, they can change everything from waking up certain surf spots to shutting them down. You will then be able to see that the Vendée hides its game well, that it can offer memorable surf trip sessions, in the same way as the Landes or the Basque Country.

Ideally situated along the French coast, the Vendée is distinguished by the beauty of its characteristic nature, but also by its easy access by campervan - especially for the people of Nantes and Angevins. Once there, some sixty kilometres of coastline await campervan travellers, alternating dunes, rocks and long sandy beaches. A variety of landscapes which offers as many interesting options for the practice of water sports and the pleasures of the beach, but also for nights in a campervan. As varied as they are, note that the surf spots in the Vendée are relatively close to each other. This makes it much easier to explore in a small, fully equipped van, so there is something for everyone, even on short surfing trips. This is often the case in France and all over the world, the best surfing sessions always start before the sun warms the earth and the wind gets up. A day of surfing in a campervan therefore starts the night before by going to bed early. A little coffee while you spot the waves, and off you go for the first session of the day. Then you are free to change surf spots or to stay for the day. You will quickly notice that there is no such thing as a typical day, as they are organised according to the rhythm of the tides, the direction of the swell and the direction of the wind. It's up to you to find the spot of the day in a campervan, then get organised. Surfing and living in a campervan means above all connecting with nature, living at your own pace. And this, whatever the weather, because in the Vendée it is possible to rent a campervan to go surfing all year round!
